Pizza pie from Slice
Pizza pie from Slice

If you want New York pizza your best option is to go to New York. If however, the idea of spending £300 on the air fare may be a bit off-putting, your next best option is to head towards north-west London instead and grab yourself a slice or two from the aptly-named kosher pizzeria Slice.

No doubt inspired by such legendary American pizza haunts as Amnon's and Jerusalem II, Slice offers the best kosher pizza this side of the Atlantic. Its ingredients are fresh and full of flavour. On all counts Slice wins. The tomato sauce tastes rich, while the mozzarella is nice and gooey, and the pizza dough holds it all together well.

You can either order by the slice (prices start from £1.80 for basic cheese and tomato) or, if you're feeling hungry, a whole cheese and tomato pie will set you back £11. You'd better be pretty hungry though, as one pie contains eight huge slices. Extra toppings, which include tomatoes, tuna, sweetcorn and olives, cost 35p on a slice or £2 on a whole pie.

Slice is popular and each pizza is made fresh to order. But, on the down side, be prepared to wait as it can take up to 20 minutes for your order to be ready.

Well worth checking out.

Slice is at 8 Princes Parade Golders Green, London, NW11 9PS.
