Kelman's is one of London's longest established butchers and as well as selling you fresh products from its store in Wembley, north west London, the company also produces a range of pre-cooked fresh and frozen products including Chinese and Indian meals.
We recently purchased two meals, a chicken korma and a chicken tikka massala. Both are priced around £4.50 - £5.00 depending on where you buy it from.
Instructions say you can heat it in the oven or microwave. We decided on the oven and put both meals in together and waited the 40 minutes or so required heating time.
While that was going on, some basmati rice was also cooked in preparation to go with the korma and tikka massala.
There's certainly enough for two people out of each 350gram pack, probably enough for three.
First impressions always count and Kelman's didn't let us down.
The korma, which was made with coconut milk, featured very tender chicken and was in a very smooth tasting sauce. Traditionally korma is made with cream and the coconut milk makes a good alternative.
The tikka masala was on the hot side, but not too hot. Enough to appreciate and enjoy. The chicken was tender and the sauce provided was full of flavour.
These two Kelman's ready meals are a good choice for anyone looking for something different and offering a home-made taste.
