Retail tycoon Sir Philip Green is to give £1m a year over the next five years to Jewish Care.
The owner of high street stores Top Shop, Bhs and Burton previously gave a £4.5m donation to the charity in 2005.
The details of Green’s support for the charity came at its annual dinner which was hosted by BBC news presenter Natasha Kaplinsky.
Kaplinsky was introduced by former Middle East envoy Lord Levy who said: “We really are the NHS of Anglo-Jewry. Jewish Care is in the heart of our community – it touches the lives of so many and virtually every family within our community.”
