Spanish tenor Placido Domingo, general director of the Los Angeles opera, has invited Allen to direct an epic in September 2008.

“I have no idea what I am doing. But incompetence has never prevented me from plunging in with enthusiasm,” Allen says.

Allen will direct Gianni Schicchi, part of Puccini’s Il Trittico opera trio.
