An 18-year-old Jewish student studying for her A Levels has taken another step closer for the chance to become the next Miss England and represent her country at the annual Miss World competition.

Radlett and Bushey Reform Synagogue member Samantha Freedman has been chosen to be Miss Hertfordshire and now gets the chance to compete in Miss England which takes place later this month.

The Radlett and Bushey Reform Synagogue member fought off competition from more than 200 other hopefuls and is delighted at her win.

"My family are so happy. They were cheering me on the whole way. I think my dad even cried," she said. "My sister was a great help doing my hair and make-up before the event. I couldn't have done it without her."

Freedman, who stands 5feet 4inches added that she sees a career for herself in fashion and plans to study at Kingston University after her A levels. “I would like to fulfill a course in fashion design, and to then go on to be a fashion designer," she says.

As well as the Miss Hertfordshire title, Freedman also won a 12 month modelling contract, annual membership to a gym and clothes vouchers.
