Hollywood producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein are branching out into fashion after acquiring top style label Halston.
The fashion house is best known for dressing the international jet set during the 1960s and 1970s.
“Two years ago, when my brother and I started The Weinstein Company, one key component we were talking about to the investors about was finding a name brand to acquire to diversify our company,” says Harvey Weinstein. “This partnership will further the natural connection between the adjacent worlds of entertainment and fashion.”
Harvey denies reports his girlfriend, Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, will be coming on board to run Halston, jokingly adding: “Her attitude is, ‘I’m staying with Marchesa, and you’re the last person I’d ever work for.’”
Jimmy Choo founder and president Tamara Mellon will be brought on board to help structure management and provide creative direction for the brand.
The filmmakers are also considering making a documentary on the life of the company’s founder, Ray Halston Frowick.
