Meals on the Go

The Chinese and Japanese may have given us instant noodles in a cup, so what does Israel do to satisfy the kosher palate when wanting something in a cup that is quick, easy and filling?  It gives the world mash potato. And Osem is the market leader in mash potato instant cup meals.

Truly satisfying? Oddly enough, yes.

Highly processed?  Who cares when it tastes so good and gives everyone the chance to eat on a budget and feel satisfied.  Make one with some bread and you've got a filling meal.  It may not be gourmet cuisine, but flavoured mash potato does have its uses.

Not only can you have it on its own, but you could have it on the side to a main course - fish, meat, chicken, whatever, it works well.  Being 100% parve means, you can eat it with just about anything and in fact you will want to.

There are two types of Osem instant potatoes meals - mushroom and vegetables. Both are equally delicious.

Best of all, it is a self service meal with plastic spoon provided, all you need to add is some hot water.

Nutrition buffs might like to know that it averages around 210 calories per cup when made and contains around 8 grams of fat, best of all, unlike many of the rival instant noodle meals, there are no nasty surprises like enumbers and MSG.

Available at all leading kosher food suppliers as well as many supermarkets in Jewish areas.

Expect to pay around 70p.
