Bevis Marks 350

The final event of the year long celebrations to mark the 350th Anniversary of Jews being readmitted to England saw a sell out crowd of 500 people attend Bevis Marks Synagogue in the City of London for a night music, drama and poetry.

Presented by The Sephardi Centre and  compared by journalist Norman Lebrecht the Saturday night event proved popular with those attending and served as a timely reminder to where Jews first returned as Bevis Marks is located near to Creechurch Lane where the returning Jews first worshipped.

As well as the musical event, other final events of the anniversary year took place last week including a lecture by Chief Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks on Giving and Belonging at the Royal Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Last Tuesday, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild unveiled a new portrait of The Duke Of Edinburgh, commissioned by Sir Sigmund Sternberg, Co-founder of the Three Faiths Forum, at the office of the Board of Deputies of British Jews.
