If you have ever wanted to improve your Hebrew, the United Synagogue in association with the UJIA is offering its members and potential members a six-week crash course to read and speak.

By the end of the course, its hoped that participants will be able to play a more active role during synagogue services.

"We are pleased to offer this opportunity to our members. We recognise that there are US members who may find it difficult to follow shul services," said Leonie Lewis, community development group director of the United Synagogue. "It is important that we help and support those members who wish to develop their understanding of the Hebrew language,"

A number of synagogues across the London and surrounding areas will be hosting the course which starts on October 30 and concludes in time for Chanukah. At the end of the course, participants will get a copy of the Chief Rabbi's new siddur.

"It's very challenging to feel part of a shul service if you can't read Hebrew and I'm really looking forward to teaching the course," said Rabbi D Roselaar of Belmont Synagogue who is taking part in running the 35 course.
