It's a good month for Jewish music – if you happen to live in New York, that is. DJ Handler, the boss of Modular Moods Records, is bringing some of his hippest artists to a series of shows over the next few weeks. Among the highlights are:
Hip Hop Sulha – The Israeli and Palestinian Concert Series
There's an impressive line-up for this show, featuring some of Jewish hip-hop's finest. Among those set to perform are Orthodox rapper Y-Love, Israeli hip-hop star Sagol 59 and Jewish American 'human beatbox' Yuri Lane. Palestinian rapper Saz will also make an appearance. It's all happening on September 13 at SOBs in Varick Street.
The Jewish Music Awards
This annual event, honouring the year's best achievements in Jewish music, takes place on September 12 at New York's Jewish Heritage Museum. Both Y-Love and DJ Handler are among the nominees, for Best Jewish Hip-Hop Artist and Best Jewish DJ respectively.
The Sephardic Music Festival
Ladino band Le Mar Enfortuna and DJ Jake Break are among those who will be joining DJ Handler at this event on September 12 and 13 at Merkin Concert Hall on West 67th Street.
The Gathering Of the Tribes
Modular Moods artist Y-Love is among those taking part in this show at Irving Plaza on September 14. Other highlights include sets from Jewish boyband Blue Fringe and folk-rockers The Moshav Band.
This free show in Riverside Park on September 17 offers another chance to see Y-Love, as well as the likes of Pharoah's Daughter, Neshama Carlebach and Orthodox rocker Yosi Piamenta.
