Reclaiming the term Jewess, the Jewish Women’s Archive new blog Jewesses With Attitude aims to offer young Jewish women an environment where they can comment on all manner of issues and concerns.
One of the contributing bloggers at Jewess comments on the name: “We also decided to reclaim this term for ourselves because of its cool revolutionary roots. Flash to 1895: Rosa Sonneschein (1847-1932) founded and edited The American Jewess (1895-1899), ‘the only magazine in the world devoted to the interests of Jewish women’.; It was the first English-language periodical aimed at American Jewish women.
Actually at the moment, the blog is still in its early stages and features just two bloggers contributing with a handful of comments made on the initial entries.
But it has potential as a way for women to engage in various debates and ideas of concern and interest to them.
A good initiative from the Jewish Women’s Archive and shows a way in which it aims to help connect young Jewish women with their peers as well as aiming to stimulate some lively debate and discussion in a modern way.
One to watch.
