Pom Wonderful

Over the last year or so, Brits have started to follow their US cousins by adopting pomegranate juice as part of their daily diet.

Until recently, the choice of juice has been limited to long life blended varieties, but now, one of America's leading brand - Pom Wonderful has now arrived in the UK and it's fully kosher.

Under the auspices of the Orthodox Union, Pom Wonderful is pure pomegranate (from concentrate) and comes in a 473ml bottle. It's also a premium product costing 2.99 at most supermarkets and unlike its cheaper rivals, nothing else is added to it.

The result, you get a very sharp and almost bitter tasting drink. So, it's ideal therefore to dilute it with some water. Of course, you could always add some vodka if you're feeling adventurous but that kind of destroys the health benefits pomegranate juice offers.

So what's up with pomegranate? Well, it's one of the healthiest fruits on the earth. It has Middle Eastern origins, though these days it is also produced in a number of non-Middle Eastern countries including India and America. It's also said to have medicinal properties through being packed with antioxidants which can help fight various health problems including those related to the heart.

So give Pom Wonderful a try, it may take some time to get used to drinking it neat, but once you are used to its taste, there's no going back.
