She's still a teenager but already has been dubbed the next Celine Dion, and performed with the likes of former president Bill Clinton and opera legend Jose Carreras. Meet Liel, an Israeli singer who's on the way to becoming a huge star.
The 16-year-old first started singing when she was four, but it wasn't until she won a major European talent contest at the age of 11 that she really made her mark. She's particularly popular in Germany, where she's appeared on numerous TV shows and played concerts everywhere from Leipzig to Berlin.
However, it seems she has some fans in high places as well – and not just German rockers The Scorpions. Not only has she performed for the German President, the Royal Family of Monaco and the Pope (at a concert in Cologne), and hung out with Bono and Elton John, but she also performed with former US president Bill Clinton at the 80th birthday of Shimon Peres. The resulting performance of John Lennon's song Imagine – during which Clinton also joins in (to full cheesy effect) – can be seen on her website.
More recently she's been touring Europe and the Middle East with the Scorpions, as well as putting in an appearance at the World Boxing Championship (where she belted out the disco diva classic High Energy). Maybe Israel should get her to perform for them at Eurovision next year – you never know, she could be the next big Israeli winner, following in the footsteps of Dana International and Milk and Honey.
