With the release of The Best of The Moshav Band – Higher And Higher, one of Israel's finest musical exports provides an opportunity to get acquainted with their unique blend of rock/folk, fused with Jewish spiritual insights.
The band, who made Los Angeles their home in 2000, have come a long way since being four kids living on the famous Moshav Meor Modi'im – a musical village between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv – founded by the legendary Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach (aka The Singing Rabbi).
The four-piece consists of brothers Yehuda, Meir, Yosef and David, and they've released five albums and one DVD. Much of the band's critical success has been down to word of mouth and their live shows – they're prolific in their touring of mainly the States and Israel. They also have a knack for cross-audience appeal, from teens to seniors, the Moshav sound is accessible to all.
The new compilation album has 18 tracks and provides the perfect introduction to the band. Amongst the highlights are Ufduyev, Eliyahu Hanavi and Return Again – although every track on here is worth a listen. As well as the tracks in Hebrew, they also perform in English, and a number of these tracks are also on the compilation.
With such a vibrant sound, it's no surprise they have such wide appeal – and they look set to further grow their fan base.
